Barcelona Trip part IV: On our way home
Posted on July 13th, 2009 @ 1:00 am

 nuriabarcelona.jpg

We have come to the end of this wonderful trip. With the U2 concert behind us, the tour of the city and the visit to Girona and Figueres now in the past we had one last day in Barcelona.. (well really one last morning).

We decided to wake up early and go to the Picasso Museum in the gothic part of town.. We didn’t have much time because we had to catch a train back to Alicante. We did a sort of  “Chevy Chase” moment inside but it was well worth it..Barcelona is a beautiful city with a lot to offer, I highly recomended to everyone..

The train ride home was long but unforgettable..Thanks AnaMarie for a wonderful trip, I’m sure we will do it again soon..

Barcelona Trip part III: Girona and Figueres
Posted on July 11th, 2009 @ 1:08 am

And so we are on to part III of my awesome Barcelona trip. In part one I talked about the U2 concert which was awesome and part two explains our tour of the city of Barcelona.. so on to this part and the tale of Girona and Figueres.

Girona is a beautiful city north of Barcelona which is really enchanting.  It is a small town but full of history.. We took a tour bus from Barcelona and in a couple of hours we were there. We had a guided walking tour of the city and its sites. the Cathedral, Arab baths, the Wall, Jewish town… I feel in love with this city and would love to go back.. It was extremely hot and had to do a lot of walking must uphill.. but it was worth every minute and every site..

From there we jumped on the bus and headed to Figueres Dali’s home town.  Another very quaint town that offers the wonderful Dali museum with its very strange architecture and very interesting sites…. One of my favorite was the exhibition of Dali’s jewlelry.. awesome..

flat-tire.jpg

On the way back to Barcelona just leaving Figueres a motorcycle that decided to pass us hit head on an incoming car and we witnessed everything.. A young man and a woman were splattered on the cement while we watched how the paramedics tried to save their lives….We watched in horror as they finally placed a white sheet over the girl..It was very sad and made us realize how fragile life is..

The bus finally was allowed to continue but 10 kilometers from Barcelona we got a flat tire!! (we think it might have been from the debree left over from the motorcycle accident). We had to wait over an hour for another bus to come and pick us up..Overall, it was a very interesting experience..

Barcelona trip part II: a tour of the city
Posted on July 9th, 2009 @ 12:00 am

As I told you in Part One of this series of posts I spent 3 days in Barcelona with my friend Ana Marie. On our second day there we decided to go take the tour bus and visit the city.. There is so much to see in Barcelona that it is important to plan ahead (something we didn’t do). That is why the double decker tour bus is the best option.

You buy a ticket for one or two days and you can hop on and off at any stop you like. We decided to first do the entire tour and see what we liked to see and then started stopping at all the great sites.. We stoped by the Museum of Catalunia, then  took the cable cars up to the Castle Montjuïc then off to the port and the Ice Bar... very very cool.. and very very cold….

Once we had completed the tour we decided to get changed and go out to the gothic part of Barcelona for a nice dinner and drinks.. We went to a great tapas restaurant and had a great meal, then off to a couple local bars in which we found they make great mojitos!! then off to sleep because the next morning we were off to see the Dali museum…

To be continued…….

Barcelona trip part I: U2 concert
Posted on July 7th, 2009 @ 11:45 am

My very great friend Ana Marie otherwise known to some as “Muffy” flew from Miami to visit me in Alicante and invited me to the U2 concert in Barcelona... We decided to stay a couple of days in the city of Barcelona since neither of us had ever been. We left by train on the morning of June 30th and arrived to our hotel to find out that there was a problem with our rooms and had to be transfered to another hotel room..

Once settled in we got ready for the concert and our adventure began on the metro full of thousands of fans who also headed to the Camp Nou stadium. Once there the excitement was obious and there were more people than you would think would fit in this stadium.. We finally got in and sat down with beer in hand to watch the concert.

The last time I had seen U2 in concert was about 20 years ago in Madrid when it was my brother who was supposed to go with my cousin but got sick at the last minute and gave me his ticket..And let me tell you they rocked this time as much as back then. They played a lot of their new songs and many of their oldies..

The stadium was completely sold out and there were people everywhere. On the way out we had to find our way to the metro with a million people trying to get in.. a great adventure I will never forget.. Thanks Ana Marie!!!!

Travel issues on our last day
Posted on February 15th, 2008 @ 6:30 pm

I don´t want any laughter after you read this!!!! Here goes…
We were to leave Miami on Thursday February 14th Valentines Day..by the way happy love day to all.. our flight was scheduled for 5 30 pm on American Airlines..hahahahahahaa.. we got to the airport at 2 30 pm with plenty of time to spear.. we wait in line to check in for one hour an a half, when we got to the counter the guy if tells me that if I would have read my itenarary correctly I would have seen that the American flight was operated by Iberia and that I should hurry up and get there before its too late……..

We run as fast as we possibly can, with 6 pieces of luggage, 4 hand luggage, coats, running people over and dragging the kids ..literally dragging them through the entire airport.. we get to Iberia and there is no line so I think , thank God…we get up to the counter and show my paperwork.. the lady looks at it and gives me a funny look.. she walks away and comes back to tell me.. maamm..your flight is for tomorrow..the flight today is booked but maybe you can run back to American and see if they could help you…..

We run as fast as we possibly can…(pretty much read the pragraph above but the other way) hahaha.. we get to the American counter and I go back to the same guy and tell him.. if you would have read my paperwork right it would have told you that our flight was for tomorrow.. but please, please…. please.. can you book us on todays flight…I begged and begged and explained that if I had to call my dad and tell him to come pick us up he would kill me….

To make a long story short.. we are in Madrid..we had a great flight.. we are very tired but we made it. Matt will pick us up tomorrow and we should be in Alicante by Sunday…

The trouble with passports
Posted on February 6th, 2008 @ 10:13 pm

Don´t know where to even begin with this one.. It all started last Thursday the day before we were to leave for Madrid, I realized that Marco´s American passport was expired and freaked out but thought ok, no problem I will renew well not really re new but get the new digital Spanish passport needed to travel..We all had to get up extra early to go to the passport office to renew and when our turn comes around (after a couple of hours waiting) I´m told I need his original birth certificate from Spain, I explain I have the American original since that is where he was born!! I did have a photo copy of a literal paper from Madrid stating he was a legal Spanish citizen but they said that was not valid!! After arguing for a while the very nice man let it slide!! Thank God right…

WRONG… when we get to the airport on Monday morning (I will write another post about the Madrid weekend) We were right on time, everything was going soo smoothly that for a second I thought.. everything is going way to smooth, something will happen.. and as we are being interrogated by the little robots of American Airlines, I´m told that Marco and Isabella need to fly with their American Passports because they are American..When I explain Marco´s passport is expired.. they are not to happy and call the American Embassy, which tells them to tell me that I must renew before flying!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so Im, having a heart attack and thinking this can´t be happening to me..but there was nothing they could do, they kindly booked us on the flight for the next day and said I should go to the American Embassy right away… I decided I should call them to find out what I needed.. Thank God I had brought Marco´s original birth certificate, because I was planning to re new his passport in the states.. they tell me all I needed was the old passport, the original birth certificate, 2 pictures and my husband!! ok, wait a minute my husband is in Alicante.. hahahahaa.. well, they said his choice is to either get to Madrid or to Valencia before 2 pm.. Lets just say Matt was not very happy when I woke him up and told him to get his ass out of bed and drive all the way to Valencia to sign some sort of authorization paper..

At the American embassy, entering is entering the freaking white house, they take all electronics away from you and literally search every part of you.. I didn´t have a phone to contact Matt, so I filled out all the necessary paperwork and had to just sit there looking at the clock and hope that Matt would make it before 2 pm… at 1 50 I was given the passport!!!

WE are in Miami right now.. safe and sound.. we are leaving for Disney in a little while so I will write more when we get back..

A mis amigos de habla española, nos vamos a disney en unos minutos y no me da tiempo de traducir.. podeis usar un traductor online come ESTE para que os ayude.. os prometo que cuando tenga mas tiempo escribire en español..
