Hogueras Fireworks at 1:00 am!!
Posted on June 15th, 2009 @ 11:32 pm

Ok, for those of you who don’t know what Hogueras or the Bonfires of Saint John are, All I can say is that it is a Fiesta here in Alicante Spain... You can read more about it in my Playa San Juan blog… Anyway, long explanation short, a lot of people, a lot of tradition, a lot of parties, a lot of food, a lot of drinks and most of all a lot of fireworks..

Yes, I think next to China, the Valencian community is a close second to the art of pyrotechnics.. So much so that during the weeks the Hogueras are celebrated there are firework display every night. Yes, every night, and when I say every night I mean around midnight or later..

So just imagine, you have just put your kids to bed, you have just sat down to finally start winding down, it is 1 am and all of a sudden….BOOM, BOOM , BOOM, Oh My God the world is coming to an end, we are at war… what the hell is going on??? Ohhhh, yes it is Hogueras, it is firework time…

Needless to say Marco and Bella were woken up from their nite nite and rushed to my side so I could comfort them…Before that though I was able to capture the moment in video, since last nights fireworks happened to be right around the corner..You can hear poor Precious in the background barking her head off..

Enjoy!!!!

Marco Bella and the Pirate Ship
Posted on October 6th, 2008 @ 4:53 pm

marcobellaandthepirateship.jpgOver the weekend we went to the Volvo Ocean Race that this years sets off from Alicante. The entire marina was full of all the sailboats and there was a mini amusement park all through the port. The kids had a blast, there a a “real life” pirate boat which we got to go in and visit.. Marco and Bella looked for pirates and lo and he hold they saw one down in the deck (It was really a worker, fixing something, but he looked pretty scarry ) and Bella took off running and screaming, Marco was not that thrilled to see him either.

We had a great time, we plan on going back again this weekend to finish seeing all the things we didn’t get to see…

Not Spring yet in Alicante
Posted on March 6th, 2008 @ 12:30 am

Today we had the weirdest weather, if we were still living in Miami we would have had a hurricane warning and everyone would have been out buying materials to last for months, we would have been boarding up the house and listening to all the TV stations for news of what else we should do…But not here in Alicante..

The winds were well, not sure the actual speed, but I had to hold on tight!! I could hardly open our front door and when the wind was hitting me, I could hardly breath.. It was also very, very cold..

In a couple of weeks Holy Week arrives in Spain and that is generally when the good weather starts appearing and even some daring tourist take a dip in the pool or brave the ocean waves..Not sure what they will do if this weather continues…
