And speaking about catching up.. today my good friend Paulita called me to chat, we hadn’t spoken for a while and in our talk she reminded me of a song Misty & I wrote for her when she was going through a rough spot in her life..

The following is a rap song which describes her life to a T.. Everything you read actually happend.. No joke.. hahaha.. that is what makes this song a classic.. You should have seen when Misty & I presented it to her dressed up in our rap outfits…Good times…

Paulita Rap Song

(July 11, 1998)

My name is Paula and I’m here to say; I’ve got $1 in my account today. I’m so broke, don’t know what to do; but I think I’ll spend .50 cents on you. I’m spending my time running from a man; damn I should have hit him with a frying pan. Driving my Jeep down the down the strip; looking for a place to get a ???.

The sun’s going down, don’t know where to sleep; that’s ok I’ll sleep in my Jeep. Threw my dog over the fence last night; she got so mad she nearly took a bite. My legs are covered with poison oak; but I can’t buy meds because I’m so broke. I’ve got a little bird and his name is Jack; just me and my bird, there’s no turning back.

My friend starting eating corned beef and hash; I said no, stop, that will give you gas. I got a job making minimum wage; but that’s ok I still get ????. The day is over and I’ve been through hell; all is good ’cause the check’s in the mail.

Marble floor and Markers not a good combination
Posted on September 14th, 2009 @ 1:00 am

So, everyday after lunch I like to sit down and watch my favorite tv show called FAMA a bailar.. a reality based show about dancers.. Anyway, everyday during the one hour show, Marco and Bella are usually screaming at each other, yelling, crying, hitting each other, running in front of the TV, asking me for a snack.. you get the picture.. I can’t relax..

But today, today was different.. yes, they went in to their playroom and closed the doors.. there was silence, and I know that is not a good sign, but for those of you who have kids, you will understand that a little peace and quite now and then is what is needed, specially when you are trying to work, get something done or just simply trying to relax..

So, even though I knew the silence was not a good sign, I sat back and enjoyed my one hour show..It was great.. When it ended I got up and opened the doors not knowing what I was going to find.. And the little voice inside my head was right.. they are up to something..

And, Yes, Yes they were, they got a hold of a marker and decided to make a road for their cars.. with painted cars as well.. At that point I figured I had 3 choices, kill them, cry or take a picture for the blog.. and as you can see I opted for number 3.

And guess who’s idea it was???

Camping in the terrace

Another year is half way through and my husbands dream of going camping with the family every time seems more and more imposible..So, last week he thought it would be fun to camp indoors, since none of us were up for the real thing..

And so the quest began.. Marco and Bella helped him set the tent up while I tried to continue working.. All I could hear was don’t turn around, don’t look. but when I finally did, what I saw.. made me gasp.. At that moment my upstairs neighbor decided to drop by for an unannouced visit..

There they were, Matt, Marco, Bella and Precious all inside the tent as I went to open the door and let my neighbor in.. I could still hear her laughter in my head.. all she said, like she always says was..”These crazy Americans!!”

The tent stayed up for a couples of days, and Bella and Marco slept there.. I went in, looked around, imagined a bear coming to get me and got out as fast as I could.. My first and probably last time in a tent. hahahaa.. JK..

My grandmother is 98 today!!
Posted on August 27th, 2009 @ 3:35 pm

otheryaya.jpg

Yes, you read the title right, my grandmother or as I call her Yaya (a term used here in Spain by some meaning grandmother) and Marco and Bella refer to her as “The other Yaya” because they call my mom Yaya as well.. is 98 years old today.. Can you imagine?? She was born on August 27th, 1911!! She has seen several wars, and has witnessed many new advances in technology.

Unfortunately, she has what is known here as “Dementia Senile, she recognizes my mom because she is the one who takes care of her but no one else.. Now and then she will look at you and you know she knows who you are but can’t express it..  The times I have been in Madrid to see her, she is full of joy to see me but doesn’t know why..

Today I called he to wish her a Happy Birthday and asked her if she knew who I was and she said “of course, I do you are Nuria!!“It is very rare she knows who I’m and made me very happy..

So Happy 98th Yaya, we are sure she will make it to 100 and beyond.. (Although, don’t tell that to my mom….).

The picture you see is of my grandmother in her early 20’s….

Bella and her dream of being in a Musical..
Posted on August 25th, 2009 @ 11:13 pm

As you all know, our little Isabella is quite the entertainer, she loves to dance, sing and we have now come to find out acting too.. She spends half the day looking at you tube videos of different musicals and attempts to learn the words to the songs, as well as the choreography..

Her latest obsession is the Musical Annie, she already has Tomorrow down, so now she is rehearsing.. It’s a hard-knock life!! problem is she says she needs more people to do it with.. So guess what I did all afternoon?? Yes, you guessed it.. I formed part of her cast!! She made me learn my part..(I got to be Annie, because she wanted to be one of the youngest girl in the group, the one that gets to jump in the laundry bin).. And so after a dozen times, we have it down!!

I will try to have Matt record us one of these days so you guys could laugh a little.. In the mean time I leave you with the actual You Tube video we have been copying..

You know you are old when….

The other day I had a doctor appointment and when I got there I was told my doctor was no longer my doctor!! I was a little disappointed because my doctor was a hottie.. and a very sweet and kind doctor.. Here in Spain, the “Seguridad Social” works great, it is a free system which many Spaniards critize but having lived many years in the US and having experienced both.. The expensive private insurance doctors in the US. vs the FREE Socialized medicine here in Spain.. I have to argue that so far.. I have received excellent service with absolutely no complains..

Anyway, this is not what this post was supposed to be about.. What I was getting at….I have a new doctor, this time a woman, which is good, but when I went in her office I realized she was probably in her very early 20’s.. I mean, I think she came straight from her Med school graduation!! How could this be.. my doctor is probably 15 or so years younger than me.. I’m officially OLD… :(

Organizing my first Concert/Contest
Posted on August 10th, 2009 @ 3:41 pm

 postercertamen.jpg

I always took for granted what Matt did for the preparation of all his concerts.. And although the one I’m organazing  I Certamen Conjuntos Noveles is not even close to the emensity of his shows.. I can now say I understand what he goes through. My blog La Playa San Juan was at first just colaborating with a merchant association but now it is all me!!!There are so many little details you don’t even think about.. I have I don’t know how many list of things to do.. people to contact, people to organized, budgets to approve, arguments to settle.. etc, etc.. A total nightmare...but I do love all the excitement and I hope that come Saturday the concert is a big success.

It is actually a contest where 6 bands will compete for a change to have a demo made in a local studio.. We had to listen to many demos that were sent to us until we came up with the 6 finalists.. they will each perform 3 songs and the judges will decide their fate.. I will let you know how it all goes.. wish me luck…

Madrid trip with the kids
Posted on August 5th, 2009 @ 5:16 pm

boda-daniel.jpg

I just got back from a week in Madrid with the kids. I had a wedding to go in the city so we decided to go and visit my mom and family. If any of you have ever been to Madrid in August you know what to expect.. Everyone in Madrid takes off for vacation the same month.. August.. I never quite understood that, I mean who is left? who takes care of business????? Let’s just say there are several mom and pop stores that just simply put up a sign that stated “Vacation, will be back in September” as simple as that….hahaha.. Pretty funny..

Anyway, one nice thing about August  in Madrid is that you get to go to all the museums and sightseeing places with no lines or people hovering over you.. bad part… it is very hot.. But we had a great time, the kids loved playing in the Retiro park which is right across the street from my moms house and got to play with their cousins and hang out.

I also had a great time seeing old friends and taking advantage of some of the night life there.. I do love Madrid and the city feel, since it is my natal city, I always feel right at home there.. The wedding was beautiful you can see some pictures HERE I still have to upload the rest which are in my dad’s camera.

Overall it was a great trip full of surprises….

And you can see more trip pics HERE, again I’m waiting for some more from dad..
